[11-21-2016]The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use CVS Pharmacy Medicine in the U. S. as the source for some of the most expensive brand-name prescription medications, including Viagra and Levitra, without a valid prescription.
CVS Health, a subsidiary of Walgreens, said some of its stores were experiencing adverse events related to the use of certain prescription drugs, including Viagra and its generic equivalent, Cialis, in the United States.
The FDA has notified consumers that while this information isincumbent on prescription medications, it is not advised against purchasing or using medications in the U. without a valid prescription. CVS Health said it has received reports of individuals experiencing adverse events related to use of certain prescription drugs, including Viagra and its generic equivalent, Levitra, in the United States.
The reported cases have been reported since June 20, when the FDA announced that it had identified at least 11 cases of adverse events reported to the FDA’s MedWatch website that have been directly linked to the use of prescription drugs in the United States. CVS Health said it continues to monitor reports of adverse events to the website and has taken appropriate steps to identify and hold individuals who have experienced adverse events. CVS Health did not immediately provide additional text messages or images of the cases to the media.
According to a release from CVS Health, the most expensive brand-name prescription medications covered in its annual sales list were Viagra, Levitra and Cialis without a prescription, and are expected to be covered by its annual prescription drug sales list.
The company said it will communicate to consumers the response to the notification.
